Maja Blanca

Not to be biased but I just wanna say that Maja Blanca is one of my favorite dessert! Everything about it is just MWAH! DELICIOUS! Okay, I’ll stop. Let me tell you all about Maja Blanca.

Originated from Spain and is adapted from the traditional Spanish Dessert, “Manyar Blanco”, which is a Spanish word for “White Delicacy”. Maja Blanca is a dish of Spanish origin that has become a very popular Filipino dessert. There are different kinds of Maja. The more common ones are: Maja de Ube, Maja con Maiz, Squash Maja.

Maja Blanca is one of the famous Philippine desserts, it is made out of coconut milk, corn and cornstarch. The dish is most popular in Luzon, especially in Tagalog, Kapampangan, Pangasinense, and Ilocano cuisine. But it is also popular in the south, to Zamboangueños. The corn kernels and latik are used to add different textures to the maja blanca, which makes it thick, which is similar to gelatin and usually has a creamy or off-white color.

Served in festivals, Christmas, New Years or just for snacks in our everyday life, Maja Balnca is popular because of its unique texture and depth flavor coming from the coconut milk. This delicacy is a must try for foreigners since it is sweet and unique in its own way. It may be similar to some delicacies but Maja Blanca is more of a depth in flavor that makes you want to eat it more.

As I have mentioned, Maja Blanca is one of my favorite dessert. Reason for that is because it isn’t to sweet, and it isn’t to bland. Its JUST RIGHT! Its texture is similar to gelatin. Maja con Maiz is my favorite type of Maja Blanca. Basically, I love anything with corn. So I deliciously recommend you to try Maja Blanca. I hope that I won’t let you down.
