Bulalo

Where this dish originated varies but the most popular answer is it’s a native dish of Southern Luzon, specifically in Batangas, where cattle- raising is a huge industry. Bulalo is also known for its many variations from different places. Bulalo is considered to be one of the most favorite main dishes in the Philippines, so ordering it in restaurants may be pricey.

Patience is a must when cooking or waiting for the dish to be served or cooked, because of it’s main ingredient which is beef, cooking it takes time and patience to make the beef tender, soft and easy to eat. Simmering it for a long time in a boiling water with many kinds of spices makes the flavor come out more. The soup is a must be paired with the beef since Bulalo is a light colored soup, a bulalo is not a bulalo without it’s tasty, warm and comforting soup. It also includes vegetables like Corn and Pechay and a mixture of other spices.

Commonly eaten on rice. Bulalo is usually eaten anytime so an occasion is not needed to cook or serve this extravagant soup dish to your family, friends or to your foreigner friends. It is a highly recommended dish for foreigners since it makes use of beef and because of its umami tasteful soup.

My favorite part of the bulalo is the bone marrow and the sweet corn. Personally, I think that it gives the meat and the corn more umami flavors which is what I love. But everyone has different tastes. Try bulalo some time when you visit the Philippines, its worth the while!
